STEM Program

Our Mission is to drive and grow student interest in STEM careers by leveraging the novel and lifesaving technology developed at DEVCOM Soldier Center.

Available Programs at Soldier Center:

  • DESTINY: DESTINY (Discover Engineering Science & Technology IN You) is DEVCOM Soldier Center’s unique event meant to inspire high school age female students to pursue STEM careers. Attendees can interact directly with the many different talented women who contribute to our national defense and the security of our nation. Learn about where they came from, their educational backgrounds, and how they ended up in their fulfilling careers in a rewarding STEM profession. See the innovative science and technology they’re developing that protects our nation’s soldiers. This event occurs annually in October, so don’t miss out.
  • Expert School Visits: Want an expert STEM professional to meet with your school, class or after school program? Want your students to see real-world, innovative soldier centered technology? Let us know! Simply fill out a request form to get in contact with our STEM Program Lead and we’ll work with you to schedule a visit. Please allow for 1-2 months of lead time for planning purposes.
  • Soldier Center Facility Tours: Tours of DEVCOM Soldier Center are a unique opportunity to see the facilities that develop world-class technologies that protect and enhance our nation’s soldiers. If you feel your students would benefit from an on-site visit, simply fill out a request form to get in contact with our STEM Program Lead and we’ll work with you to schedule a tour. Please allow for a minimum of 3 months of lead time for planning purposes.
  • STEM Kits: There are plenty of unique difficulties that arise when dealing with the security and defense of country. These can increase in complexity when involving human beings that require food, shelter, and comfort, allowing them to perform at their best. The STEM kits developed at Soldier Center are specifically meant to mirror science and technologies developed on-base. These kits are included in School Visits and Facility Tours, allowing students to get hands on with real soldier-oriented technologies.

Army Education and Outreach Programs (AEOP):

  • GEMS: Gains in the Education of Mathematics and Science (GEMS) is an U.S. Army-sponsored, summer STEM enrichment program for middle and high school students that takes place in participating U.S. Army research laboratories and engineering centers.
  • Camp Invention: Camp Invention® is a weeklong summer adventure for students K-6 with activities that help you explore the connections between science, technology, engineering and innovation.
  • eCybermission: eCYBERMISSION is an online STEM competition for 6th to 9th grade students that promotes teamwork, self-discovery, and the real-life applications of STEM. Students work in teams, led by an adult Team Advisor, to choose a problem in their community to explore with science or solve with engineering.
  • JSHS: For high school students, the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) is an opportunity to compete for scholarships and recognition by presenting the results of their STEM projects before a panel of judges and an audience of their peers. Students also get access to hands-on workshops, panel discussions, career exploration, research lab visits and networking.
