A native of Connecticut, at the age of 17, COL Babington joined the Connecticut Army National Guard as an 11B Infantryman and served six years in the 29th Infantry Division. He was commissioned as a Quartermaster Officer branch detailed to the Infantry upon graduation from the University of Connecticut ROTC program in the year 2000.


COL Babington’s operational assignments began in 2000 when he was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division, as a Rifle Platoon Leader, Support Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, and Brigade Staff Officer. He then attended the Logistics Transition Course and the Captain’s Career Course. After the Captains Career Course, he was assigned to the DISCOM, 1st Cavalry Division where he served as an Assistant S3 and S3, before taking command of E FSC 2/7 CAV, later reflagged to 1/12 CAV, 3rd BDE, 1st Cavalry Division. His final operational assignment was Assistant SPO for 215th BSB, 3rd BDE, 1st Cavalry Division.


COL Babington’s acquisition assignments began in 2008 when he was assigned as an Assistant Product Manager for Product Manager, Global Positioning Systems, PEO IEW&S. From there, he was assigned to the Army Test and Evaluation Command, Army Evaluation Center, where he served as an evaluation officer for multiple programs in PEO CS&CSS, PEO Soldier, PEO C3T, and PEO IEW&S. COL Babington served as a Proponent Officer for the Director of Acquisition Career Management and as the Branch Chief for Structure and Proponency. Most recently, COL Babington served as the CSL Select, Product Manager for PdM Force Sustainment Systems (FSS).


COL Babington holds a BS from Western Connecticut State University and an MBA from Johns Hopkins University. His military training and education includes Basic Training and Infantry Advanced Individual Training, Infantry Officer Basic Course, Logistics Transition Course, Logistics Captain’s Career Course, Command and General Staff College, Acquisition Officer Basic Course, Intermediate Qualification Course, Level III certified in Program Management, Level III in Test and Evaluation, and Level I in Information Technology. COL Babington has been board selected to attend Senior Service College.


COL Babington’s deployments include the following: Kosovo 2001-2002 as a Support Platoon Leader, Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom, CJTF 180) 2003 as the J4 Battle Captain, Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom II) 2004-2005 as a Brigade Assistant S3, (Operation Iraqi Freedom 06-08) 2006-2007 as a Company Commander.


COL Babington’s awards and decorations include the Combat Action Badge, Expert Infantryman’s’ badge, Basic Parachutist Badge, Parachute Rigger Badge, Air Assault Badge, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Valorous Unit Award (1OLC), Meritorious Unit Citation (2OLC) Bronze Star Medal, Army Meritorious Service Medal (4OLC), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (1OLC), and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (MOVSM).
